Walkadog Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}
September 9, 2011 by Leave a Comment
Walkadog was founded a few years ago by Peter Rein, a product designer who wanted to design his own products. Since he had a love for animals and was experiencing difficulty in training their golden retriever puppy, he worked upon the concept of a do-it-yourself dog training control aid so that anybody could be empowered to train their own dog. Hence, the Walkadog trainer was born.
What Is It?
In a nutshell, the Walkadog is an innovative and friendly way to train your dog to heel. Here are the Walkadog’s features:
- Expandable leash that shortens to reach the collar of a big dog and lengthens to reach the collar of a small dog.
- Comfort grips so it won’t hurt the trainer’s hands.
- Two-handed control.
- Ergonomic design to match the contours of the human body, making it easier to use.
- Constructed of strong, durable plastic.
- Wrist lanyard for safety.
How’s It Work?
- Keeps the walker’s shoulder square, maintaining proper posture and reducing strain.
- One hand guides the dog while the other provides leverage so it properly heels.
- Lightweight so it doesn’t seem heavier as you go.
- Sure footing. Since you’re not bending over or leaning back to get your dog to heel, your steps are sure.
- Because the leash on the Walkadog can lengthen or shorten, you can adjust it so it is the correct length to keep the best control of your dog.
Discover It
Peter sent us one of his black Walkadog trainers to test run.
Since Tag is a big, blue heeler/black lab mix dog, I didn’t have to readjust the leash (how it came was perfect). But to readjust the leash is very easy–just lengthen or shorten it as you would on a collar. Once you have it to the desired length, you secure the excess leash with an attached hook and loop strap.
We adjusted the clip to Tag’s collar then the Mister and I both went to work testing it.
The Walkadog is a huge lifesaver! I have never ever enjoyed walking Tag because walking him meant I would literally be getting dragged. In the past, I had tried pulling him back with a regular leash to make him heel, but to no avail. Thus, I had given up walking him. But with the Walkadog–and even now, while I am pregnant–getting him to heel and stay by my side is a huge success!
The Walkadog is both easy and painless to use. No more bending over to pull Tag in, or leaning back to keep from falling on my face! Walking the dog has now become a pleasure!
And of course, Tag got his share of positive reinforcement for doing a good review.
