In 2010, while pregnant with her daughter, Shannon Carillo began researching cloth diapers. She couldn't find the perfect one-size diaper. Therefore, after combining the pros that other cloth diapering parents mentioned about various cloth diaper designs and eliminating the cons, Shannon created her own one-size cloth diaper. She perfected the design and, in 2011, began her Booty Buns business.
The Booty Buns cloth diaper is a true one-size cloth diaper, meaning that it truly fits most babies from 3 to 45 pounds. In addition to being a true one-size diaper, the diaper also comes with inserts, a washable liner, and a cloth wipe so that the purchaser does not have to buy each of these necessary accessories separately.

Shannon sent us one a Booty Buns diaper in the Lucky Booty color with two inserts, a cloth liner, and a green cloth wipe.
The exterior of the diaper is constructed from PUL (polyurethane laminate). I love the color!
Since this is a true one-size cloth diaper (Shannon says that it fits a baby from 3 to 45 pounds), it has 5 rise settings to grow with the wee one.
To fit around the waist of a tiny baby, the diaper has four overlap snaps (circled in the first illustration just above). In the second illustration, I have the diaper snapped down to its smallest possible size using these overlap snaps and the shortest rise setting.
The interior of the diaper is made of super soft microfiber.
The diaper has double leg gussets to ensure a secure fit and to keep leaks at bay.
The diaper is held together with very secure straight stitching that is, well, very straight.
The diaper has a sleeve-style pocket, meaning that the pocket has two openings (one on the front and one in the back). Each opening has a flap that keeps messes from getting inside and also keeps little hands from removing the insert.
Each Booty Buns diaper comes with two inserts–a newborn insert and a large insert. Each insert is constructed with 3 layers of microterry.
To secure the insert, the diaper has a snap on the inside front of the diaper and on the insert. This helps the insert stay put and helps to keep the wee one from being able to remove the insert.
In addition to the inserts, the diaper also comes with a cotton flannel liner. Uses for a washable liner like this include easier poo clean-up, protection of the diaper's interior fabric (such as from poo stains or from losing its absorbency when using non-cloth diaper safe diaper rash ointment), and to protect baby's skin if he's allergic or sensitive to the microfiber interior lining.
Something new that Shannon recently began doing is include a matching cloth wipe with each diaper. One side is made with a cotton flannel print fabric and the other with jersey microterry.
After my initial inspection of the diaper and its accessories, it came time to hand down the review to my boys. The Little Guy was the first to review the diaper. His first review ever!
I was pleased that, when set to the shortest rise setting, the diaper did a great job at steering clear of the Little Guy's umbilical cord. However, I did notice that the leg gussets were kinda big around his little legs.
The diaper was quite bulky on the Little Guy. However, it still looked incredibly cute!
Unfortunately, the diaper leaked the Little Guy's pee through that spot on one of the legs. He was only 1 week old when this happened and had really skinny legs, plus the diaper's waist was over his hips to avoid his umbilical cord (and therefore I couldn't use the spiffy overlap snaps to make it tighter without squishing him). However, when I tried the diaper on him again a couple weeks later (after he had regained up to his birth weight, grew an inch plus, and I could close the diaper over his waist after his umbilical cord dropped off), the diaper successfully kept both his #1 and his explosive #2 in.
After washing and drying the diaper, I then had the Little Mister give it a test run. It fit him beautifully on the second-from-the-top rise setting. It survived some play time and a full night on him without any leaks of any type.
Overall, I really enjoyed the diaper. It is super cute and, after that initial super-skinny week for the Little Guy, it worked really well on both of my boys. Fill up your stash with just this one kind of diaper, and I believe you'd be set!

Thanks for your awesome review! I was just noticing in your pictures that the crossover waist snaps weren’t used when your baby was brand new. By utilizing the crossover snaps, the legs & waist close tighter & better prevent leakage. Our daughter is 22 pounds & we have her waist snapped to the same snaps that you had your newborn snapped to. The diapers are designed to be a little snug.

I tried using the overlap snaps, but they were too tight on him and he’d fuss–probably because the waist was technically over his hips in order to avoid his his umbilical cord. Which is pry why is didn’t leak a couple weeks later after the umbilical was off.
