For over 70 years, Britax has been innovating safe and easy-to-use car seats. Originally a European company , they made their debut in the American market in 1996. From infant car seats to belt-positioning booster seats and from newborn to 120 pounds, Britax car seats cover every stage of a young child’s backseat ride.
Britax sent us a Frontier 85 Combination Harness-2-Booster seat in the Maui Blue cover color.
The moment the Mister opened the box that the seat came in, both boys were excited to check it out–and the Little Mister knew immediately it was for him!
One of the first features of the seat that the Little Mister put to use was the cup holder. His old seat had no cup holder so he was always losing his sippy somewhere on the floor of the car (which led to smelly milk spills!). So having not one but TWO cup holders has proven very convenient both for his use and in the prevention of clean ups.
In the harness mode (which the Little Mister will use until he’s heavier), there is a 5-point harness to ensure maximum safety in the case of accidents and to keep him put during drives.
By the head of the seat are Britax’s multi-layer True Side Impact Protection cushions which reduces the impact from a side car crash by 45%, which means our Little Mister’s head would be well protected. Plus, they’re soft to nap on.
On the back of the seat, besides the straps to attach the seat to the car, is Britax’s unique Quick-Adjust Harness control. Rather than pulling the seatbelt straps out then messing around with forcing them back through narrow slats to adjust the height of the harness, the Quick-Adjust Harness simply slides up and down to make the adjusting task less of a hassle.
The booster also has two convenient arm rests for more comfortable journeys and added side protection.
The seat has easy-to-follow directions written on the side. My husband had it installed in our car using these directions in less than 5 minutes.
Other safety features of the Frontier 85 include an energy-absorbing foam liner, harness ultra guard system (HUGS) to provide resistance from forward movement in a car accident, and it is SecureGuard compatible (the SecureGuard is sold separately and is meant to keep the child from slipping through the lap belt in booster mode).
My favorite feature about this car seat is the fact that, once the Little Mister is big enough, it converts into a booster seat (and, yes, I fixed the part across his chest before we drove anywhere).
Overall, we really enjoy this new car seat! It is convenient and easy to use, has great safety features, and has awesome convenience features (like the cup holders). I love that it converts into a booster seat and that it can hold his weight up to 120 pounds as this means he will not need any other booster for as long as he is in boosters! I also really enjoy the appealing the blue cover and how simple it is to remove and wash. And, when in car seat mode, is safe for use on airplanes which will come in very handy very soon. And the Little Mister adores it–he has a fit when we take him out of it!
