Catherine Bolden founded the Willow Store in an effort to provide individuals with products that help them be good stewards of the world we have been blessed with. Today, the Willow Store stands true to it purpose by offering reusable items like cloth diapers, cloth menstrual pads, wool dryer balls, reusable “paper” towels, and more.
The Willow Store sent me a set of 3 wool dryer balls to review.
To use the dryer balls, the instructions simply stated to throw all three in the dryer with the wet clothes. The claim of wool dryer balls is that it removes the static electricity that causes clothing to become stiff while at the same time cutting down on the length of time it takes your clothes to dry (which, in turn, reduces the amount of electricity being used to run your dryer). Wool dryer balls are also great for use with cloth diapers.
I did two test runs with the wool dryer ball trio. One with a regular load of laundry and the other with a load of cloth diapers.
The wool dryer balls did an excellent job of performing the duties of dryer sheets without the smells or chemicals of dryer sheets; in other words, they softened the clothes and removed any static electricity.
The balls also successfully cut about 10 minutes off the drying time of both loads. This is not a significant amount, but, when added up, becomes significant in the long run. Therefore, I anticipate these dryer balls to help us save on electrical costs.
I was happy that the wool dryer balls were colorful. I half expected to receive some boring, drab, or even dirty-looking (with spots) balls like some dryer balls I have seen. But, on the contrary, the pink, blue and purple colors were refreshing and fun. I also like how the balls feel. They’re soft and smooth; other dryer balls I have seen in the past are essentially just balls of yarn. These balls are the real deal–authentic, true wool.
Overall, since these balls are anticipated to save us money in the future and since they assist in making our cloth diapers soft without causing them to wick (as dryer softener sheets would do), these dryer balls are a great money saver.
