In 1998, while on vacation, the Schneiders endured a long, sleepless night as their 3-month-old kept fussing. They swiftly discovered that a binky kept him calm and drowsy enough to fall asleep. However, as he drifted off, the pacifier would fall out of his mouth, causing him to wake and start fussing again. Mom and Dad realized that the only way to keep the binky in baby's mouth was if someone held it there, meaning no sleep for the binky keeper!
After several sleepless nights, Mom (whose name is Carly Schneider), had a brilliant idea. She took baby's plush stuffed toy, his binky, and sewed the binky to the toy. Now, as the baby held on to his plush toy, he inadvertently kept the binky put in his mouth.
Carly and her husband realized that they were on to something here. Thus, by 1999, she founded WubbaNub to provide other moms and dads with her ingenious invention that combine baby's two favorite things and ultimately bless mom and dad with a restful night's sleep.
WubbaNub is a giving business! They regularly donate to Baby Buggy of New York City.
WubbaNub sent us their giraffe WubbaNub to review.
The giraffe is soft and super cute.
And the hospital-approved safety pacifier is securely sewn inside the plush toy's mouth.
The Little Guy took to the WubbaNub like a charm! And they look so cute together!
I love the WubbaNub! Although the Little Guy is too young to grab and hold on to the plush toy, it was still very helpful. When the binky fell out of his mouth, it was super easy to find it again–even in the dark. No more searching and searching for where it may have fallen. It also stays inside his crib (most of the time) because of the plush toy, so it usually couldn't fall out between the crib slats. Lastly, it made it easy to just locate the binky–day or night. The binkies themselves are so small and clear-ish that, alone, they are often overlooked or simply not seen. With the stuffed giraffe, it is easier to find the binky. That includes inside the diaper bag!
What I don't like about the WubbaNub is that the binky is permanently attached to the plush toy. It would be nice to have a way to remove and replace the binky if it wears out. Around our home, besides our new baby, there are two others who want to play with the WubbaNub: our 20 month old son (he pretends to suck on it like baby and ends up just chewing on it) and our cat (who thinks its his toy and has successfully destroyed many binkies between his teeth and claws).
Overall, however, the WubbaNub has definitely become my favorite binky, and I find that it would make a perfect baby shower gift.
You can purchase a super cute WubbaNub of your own via various online and local retailers.
