Here on Measuring Flower, we often accept guest posts. Before you submit a guest post, here are our requirements.
- Family friendly. Both the content of the post and whom the writer represents must be family friendly (meaning it’s okay for an 8-year-old boy to view).
- Originality. The work must be completely original to its author. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
- Exclusivity. The work must be exclusively for publication on Measuring Flower (never been published before and never to be published afterward).
- Compatibility. Our blog’s genre is within the natural living for families category. Anything that focuses on family life, natural living, and real food (including nutrition) is welcome.
- Grammar and spelling. TJ has a Bachelor of Science degree in professional writing and our editors are selected for their meticulous editing skills. As a result, we do not take grammar and spelling errors lightly. Before you submit a guest post, make sure it is grammatically correct and everything is spelled correctly.
- Length. The work must be a minimum of 350 words.
- Demographics. Our blog’s audience consists of mostly female readers, a majority of which are married mothers, and most of who reside in the United States or Canada. Therefore, when submitting a guest post, ensure that it is written to this target audience. This includes using the appropriate lingo (say “diaper” instead of “nappy”), appropriate currency ($ instead of anything else), appropriate locale, and so on.
- Advertising. Even if you are submitting the post for the sake of having a link to a business you represent, your guest post should NOT sound like an advertisement. It should be a thoughtful, high-quality piece.
- Links. If you’re referencing something in your post, links are okay as long as they don’t look like an advertisement or spam. Affiliate links are NOT allowed. With few exceptions, a maximum of 2 links to the same business or blog you represent are allowed in the content and 1 or 2 links to your websites and/or social media profiles are permitted in your bio information. For search engine quality, these links will most likely be set to no-follow.
- Images. We require that you include at least one relevant image in the guest post. This image must be high-quality and visually appealing. If it is your own work, great. If it is another’s work, it must be used with permission and have a link to the original artist’s work or website. We retain the right to use a different image as we deem necessary. Here is a list of a few websites to access free images:
• Free Digital Photos
• morgueFile
• Pixabay - Bio. At the bottom of the guest post, include a short (2 or 3 sentences) bio about yourself and whom you represent. A maximum of 2 links to the websites, blogs, or social media profiles you represent is permitted.
- Editing. We retain the right to edit the post as we see necessary. We may also return the article for author edits (such as to clarify a point or make something more succinct).
- Frequency. With few exceptions, guest post authors may submit up to one guest post per month.
- Approval. We read all guest posts prior to approving them. We retain the right to reject any post for any reason. Reasons may include (but are not restricted to) violation of any of the above stated requirements, lack of availability to publish the work, or simply just does not suit our audience.
- Submission. To submit a guest post, please do so by emailing it in a notepad or Word document to tj[at]measuringflower[dot]com. Please note that submitting a guest post does NOT guarantee its publication.
