Geraldine Grandidier founded Tidy Books in 2004 after designing a clever bookcase for her daughter. Since those humble roots in 2004, Tidy Books has expanded. They still offer their innovative, space-saving bookcase, but they also offer a variety of other helpful everyday-use products that center around reading and family.
In addition to being incredibly handy and beautiful, Tidy Books items are very eco-friendly. All of their designs are sturdily constructed with wood obtained from sustainable sources and finished with a safe, water-based lacquer.
Our Tidy Books Kids Bookcase arrived in a flat (probably about 6 inches thick) box. It was pretty light–I was able to carry by myself with no problems.
Here are all of the pieces laid out on the floor. It came with easy-to-follow instructions and, in about an hour’s time, I had the entire bookcase completely constructed and ready to go.
I left the fastening it to the wall step for my hubby, though. Once he got home from work, it took him less than five minutes to anchor it to the wall in the Little Mister’s bedroom. As you can see, there are two screws to fasten it to the wall; it also came with drywall anchors.
The natural finish on this bookcase is beautiful. And the alphabet letters are securely attached and add the perfect amount of color.
I love how very little room this clever bookcase takes. We were able to put it against the wall behind our son’s closet door. It does not interfere with the door and it does not consume valuable play space.
Here’s the bookcase with a good variety of my son’s books. The shelves are a variety of heights, making it able to hold more books. The shorter books go on the shorter shelves, the taller books on the taller shelves. Plus, all the books face forward, making it easy for the Little Mister to see and pick them.
The Little Mister was SO excited to see the new bookcase in his room. And to see all his books out on display.
Of course, the first thing he had to check out was the attached letters. I’m thankful these letters are securely attached as he is not able to remove them.
Besides making it easy for the Little Mister to see and choose books, the bookcase makes it easy for him to pull the books out and to put them back. I don’t need to worry about him struggling to get it onto a traditional bookcase and I don’t have to worry about him stacking them in such a fashion that they fall down.
I LOVE this bookcase! I love how it takes up so little room. I love how it attaches to the wall, making it secure should the Little Mister or the Little Guy try to climb up on it (no need to worry about it tumbling down onto them). I love how beautiful yet childlike it looks. I love how simple it is to use. And I love how it really puts the boys’ book collection on display rather than kinda hidden on a traditional bookcase.
